Current wave of spam via contact forms
(Gibberish spam)

Dear {name} {surname},

Over the last few days, I have noticed a surge in spam via the contact forms on several websites I manage. The spam bots are managing to bypass both the Cloudflare Turnstile check and the forms" internal spam protection. Typical characteristics include gibberish sequences of letters (e.g. "jkävnbBBflaksdfhj") in the message content, sender names or nonsensical sender email addresses (e.g. "hn.d.rs.nf.5”, often from the Gmail email service). The spam itself is harmless – just annoying – but when it arrives in huge volumes, it naturally puts a strain on the web server.

Plugin: ND Gibberish Guard

Yesterday I developed a small plugin that specifically filters out this type of spam, so that the form isn’t submitted in the first place. It’s already installed on some pages and works very well.

If you encounter this type of spam via the contact form, please let me know and I’ll install the plugin.

Best regards
